How about equality? "But That's Not Fair! Or is it?"

         Well it February 13, and the summary and response paper, after being pushed back several times (not that i mind), is due on Wednesday. And guess who hasn't started ;) course it really shouldn't take me any time at all. I've decided to go with "equality" for my definition argument. What with the occupy wall street protests of 2011, everyone seems obsessed with equality and have equal rights. By simply reading the word, without knowing one could readily gather that it has something to do with being equal. But being equal in what regards exactly? To what is the standard by which we would say that we are equal? If someone's on top then someone's gotta be on bottom. If everyone was equal in every regard then we would not be the land of the free, governed by the people and for the people, but would be living in a socialistic country.

        According to the dictionary.com definition equality is the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in inquaintity, degree, value, rank or ability. Is this the equality that Americans are rooting for? Or what Thomas Jefferson meant when he said that we were created equal? Looking at the occupy Wall street example once again. Did they want the government to give them more money? To take money away from other people? I'm on the fence. I mean I think everyone can agree that our economy is in the dumps at this point, that the value of our dollar is definitely decreasing, and the unemployment seems to be only going up. And while agree on the one hand that professions like doctors, plastic surgeons, political representatives, etc definitely make to much money, on the other hand is it really right to take money from say doctors who have literally put loads of money, hours, and work into getting where they are today? Notice it seems like everyone protests these one or five percent of people but turn their heads at the celebrities and social elites that rake in dollars by the hundred thousands?
       Of course in this example we are only looking at economic equality or i guess really inequality. So in an effort to refrain from being biased and give everyone(diff word) an equal look opportunity, there is more than just one type of equality. There's gender equality, racial equality, ethnic equality, political equality, geographic equality, social equality.....and so on. But rather than focus on merely one type of equality over another, for that wouldn't be fair, we're going to attempt to focus strictly on what the word "equality" truly means in America today, without all of the descriptors.

       As already stated equality is by definition the state of being equal. But what I'm going to assume is that what everyone really means is fairness; everyone wants a fair shot. And that definiton according to dictionary.com goas as follows, "free from bias, dishonesty, or injustice." Fair enough?

What's your definition of the word???

            Free writing…..What’s your definition? What’s your definition of this or that, or those, them, they, group think? Ingroup? Outgroup??? I’m pondering and really considering doing the definitonal argument of Christianity. More and more, especially recently, I’ve learned that a lot of people have different definitions of what Christianity. For instance, over in the middle east to them anyone from the US, the North of Americas qualifies as a Christian; i.e. Brittany Spears, President Obama, in other words if you speak English to them that means you’re a Christian. Another angle is that today some people I’ve come across think that by simply being “good”, doing “good” things qualifies them as a Christian. So where does this definition diverge from religious aspects? What religions “make-up” Christianity? I know I have some friends who participate in other religions that consider themselves Christians, whereas I wouldn’t really define them as Christians. To me a Christian is someone who believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our salvation, without Him we are lost. I think this would be really interesting to write about. However this might be too much for this definitional argument. Perhaps I need to take another approach. Errr….Because while I do firmly believe in my definition I don’t want it to be this whole cramming of my religion down people’s throats. I want to simply say this is definition A and this is definition B. But I’m not too sure yet how my research would go for this. Do ya know what I mean????? Perhaps I should look at how foreigners look at us “westerners”    : P   

            So in my research I would/could look at the different debates of this topic.

            Hmm what else could I do if I don’t do this one????????? Beauty perhaps? GAH…..

So what I'm saying is that to be a Christian doesn't mean simply going to church or going through the whole religious "process" or "motions". To reiterate my definition is....Christianity: believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour, who died on the cross for our sins, and without whom we are lost. The end.

Who knows I might do something completely different, though I would lvoe to still do it on this regardless.
